Good for the skin, good for the world.

We are genuinely interested in all the people we meet around the world. Thanks to our loyal customers, we don’t need expensive ad campaigns. And as an independent foundation-owned company, we don’t have to pay dividends. Instead, we are free to invest in global raw materials partnerships, providing interest-free loans and enabling local farmers to pay fair wages.

Sustainable partnerships around the world.

Many of the plants we use in our formulations grow in our company’s own biodynamic medicinal herb garden or in the fields of our Demeter farm, the Sonnenhof. We purchase other raw materials regionally. But certain plant species from which we obtain raw materials do not thrive in our climate. One example is the macadamia nut, which we buy in organic quality from Kenya.

Sustainable partnerships around the world.

  • Organic initiation.
We prefer to use ingredients in organic or Demeter quality for our products – and do this wherever possible. If these are not available on the world market in the desired quality, we initiate specific cultivation projects to achieve that quality.
  • Long-term perspective.
We don’t believe in short-term contracts. We enjoy a solid and long-term working relationship with many farming partners. Our shea butter partnership, for example, has been in place for 20 years already. Binding, long-term commitments provide security for both sides in planning and further development.
  • Better social conditions.
For us, fair trade relations are a matter of course. Our understanding of fair trade partnerships includes facilitating and promoting good local working conditions as well as providing the necessary support, for example in the form of loans.
  • Financial independence.
It is always important to us that our partners achieve economic stability that makes them independent of us. We support our partners in marketing their goods worldwide and not just to us. We promote their further development, for example by providing consultants and we share expertise on agricultural issues, sustainable manufacturing processes and quality management.

Kenyan avocados
Organic avocados from our partner LIMBUA are good for the skin and better for the world. They grow in Kenya under ideal climatic conditions, cultivated traditionally with no additional irrigation.

Macadamia nuts from Kenya

Where do the macadamia nuts whose oil is found in Dr. Hauschka cosmetic products come from? Our Kenyan supplier LIMBUA can give a precise answer to this question.

Mango butter from India

Mango butter — In the past, this key raw material for cosmetics manufacturers did not exist in organic quality, but this is no longer the case thanks to Dr. Hauschka’s raw material project in India.
Castor oil from India
When we wanted to start using castor oil in organic quality, we found that it was not available anywhere in the world. We were able to change this with the help of Indian farmers.

Shea butter from Burkina Faso

Shea butter is women’s work in Burkina Faso. We have helped develop a certified fair trade and organic project that now supports more than 4,000 women in this African country.

Rose water, essential rose oil & rose petals

For Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products, we use rose extracts that have been prepared in several different ways: essential rose oil, rose water, rose wax, oil extracts from dried rose petals, aqueous, rhythmitised extracts from fresh rose petals and extracts of wild rose fruits (rose hips).
Essential rose oil from Ethiopia
When you think of essential rose oil, Turkey, Bulgaria, Iran or perhaps Afghanistan springs to mind – but Ethiopia? The Ethiopian Highlands are not only famous for their coffee, they are also the ideal place to grow the fragrant rose ‘Rosa damascena’.

Essential rose oil from Afghanistan

Afghanistan is a stronghold of the opium trade. To offer people a sustainable alternative in order to protect their livelihood, Afghan farmers grow the Damask rose at the initiative of the German World Hunger Organisation. We support this project.

Essential rose oil from Iran

In Iran, fragrant roses grow at an altitude of over 2,000 meters. The Zahra Rosewater Company biodynamically cultivates them there with our help. Profits go to orphans via a foundation.
Ice plant from South Africa
The heat-resistant ice plant, a key ingredient of Dr.Hauschka Med Skin products, comes from South Africa. We visit Ulrich Feiter, who grows the ice plant and goes back a long way with WALA.
