Product Production

A fusion of pharmaceutical standards,  handiwork and technology.

Our employees pass through two airlock gates to enter the manufacturing section of the building where Renewing Night Conditioner ampules are filled in accordance with the hygiene regulations for pharmaceutical products in Germany. A constant downward air stream protects the valuable ampules against dirt. These ampules contain the plant extracts rhythmically processed from the botanicals hand-picked by our gardeners.

This is one example of the exacting pharmaceutical standards to which we hold the production of our natural skin care products. These are the very same standards WALA Heilmittel, the manufacturer of Dr. Hauschka Skin Care, holds in the making of their homeopathic medicines.

The manufacturing processes of Renewing Night Conditioner is also emblematic of the combinations of manual work with precise technology, and natural rhythms with automated systems that are typical of the systems employed to create all Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products. Dr. Rudolf Hauschka himself paved the way for this approach—he was not only an avid chemist, but also an avid observer of the natural world. This same thought process also induced him to develop a procedure for preserving nurturing plants without the use of alcohol.

Dr. Hauschka’s extraction procedure

With his rhythmitised, water-based plant extracts, Rudolf Hauschka developed groundbreaking new pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. Even today, we still use his original procedure to produce our extracts: We chop freshly harvested plants, mix them with water for seven days, subject them to polarities of light and darkness, warmth and cold, and rest and movement, then press and filter them, sometimes adding a little ash to the pressed residues. The extract now contains the essence and the beneficial properties of the plant – and can be preserved for many years.

The manufacturer of Dr. Hauschka Skin Care’s name reflects our special manufacturing methods: WALA stands for Warm Ash and Light Ash.

A rhythmical manufacturing procedure is also used to create oil extracts and aqueous alcohol‑based essences for our skin care products. During this procedure, the oil extracts are subjected to a warming stimulus. Dried plant components, such as rose buds, are carefully transformed into oil at a temperature of 98.6oF, human body temperature.

Depending on the formulation, we mix the plant extracts, essences and tinctures with high-quality waxes and oils to produce ready-to-use products. Out of principle, we forgo using any chemical or synthetic fragrances, dyes or preservatives. Precise details of the ingredients and extraction procedures used can be found in the product descriptions on this website so you know precisely what ingredient is used in the formulation of your favorite products.
